All 22 Film Breakdown: Joe Burrow Best Plays of Week Three
Showcasing Joe Burrow’s best plays from the Bengals 19-16 win over the Rams.
The NFL is stacked with quarterback talent currently and Joe Burrow is firmly in the elite tier. Unfortunately, Burrow’s calf injury has limited him at the start of this season.
This was apparent during the Monday night game against the Rams as his mobility was very limited. Despite this Burrow displayed the anticipation, timing, and accuracy that makes him such a great quarterback.
I have chosen six of Burrow’s best throws from Monday night to break down using coaches all-22 film.
1st Quarter 3:03 left 3rd down & 4 at CIN 27
Burrow is able to place this pass just outside the outstretched arm of Rams linebacker Ernest Jones to hit Ja’Marr Chase for a third down conversion.
2nd Quarter 9:12 left 3rd down & 10 at CIN 25
Burrow hits Chase once again for a third down conversion on this play. The timing and accuracy on this throw are a good example of the type of throw that Burrow makes consistently and makes him one of the league’s best.
2nd Quarter 1:13 left 1st down & 10 at CIN 40
With a similar route to the last play except to the other side of the field Burrow delivers this throw where only Chase can get it as he’s coming out of his break. This is also an impressive play by Chase to get his feet inbounds along the sideline.
The chemistry between Burrow and Chase dates back to their days at LSU and was very apparent Monday night as the two connected 12 times for 141 yards.
3rd Quarter 8:29 left 3rd down & 10 at LAR 44
This play is yet another Burrow Chase connection for a third down conversion. On first glance it looks like this isn’t a great throw as Chase is forced to turn back to catch it. However, the back angle of this play shows that Burrow located this pass perfectly as the pass goes just outside the outstretched arms of Rams safety Russ Yeast and into the hands of Chase.
3rd Quarter 4:48 left 1st down & 10 at CIN 25
This was the longest play of the day for the Bengals as they sold a run to the left before hitting Chase near the right sideline downfield for 41 yards.
3rd Quarter 3:24 left 2nd down & 8 at LAR 30
This was an incomplete pass as it was dropped by Tee Higgins but still worth showing as it’s a very good throw. Burrow is able to fit this pass in a very tight window just outside the outstretched arms of Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom and hits Higgins in the hands.
