All 22 Film Breakdown: Patrick Mahomes Best Plays of Week Three
All 22 look at Patrick Mahomes’ best plays from the Chiefs week three game against the Bears.
This week in the NFL included many great quarterback performances around the league. One of those was Patrick Mahomes who threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in the Chiefs dominant 41-10 victory over the Bears.
Mahomes’ elite skillset was on display in this game as he was consistently accurate, played mistake free football, and had very good pocket presence as he wasn’t sacked all game.
I have chosen six of Mahomes’ best throws of the day to break down using all-22 angles which really show just how impressive quarterback play is in the NFL right now.
1st Quarter 14:22 left: 3rd Down & 8 at KC 27
Mahomes steps up to allude the rush well on this play and finds Kelce wide open for 10 yards and a third down conversion.
2nd Quarter 15:00 left: 3rd down & 2 at KC 39
The touch and ball placement on this third down throw to Kelce are especially apparent on the back angle of this play as he’s able to get it over the head of Bears linebacker Terrell Edmunds to Kelce as he’s turning around for a 10 yard gain.
2nd Quarter 7:52 left: 2nd down & 6 at KC 16
This is easily one of the most ridiculous throws you’ll see all season. The back angle shows best how remarkable this was as Mahomes is able to step up in the pocket and deliver this pass sidearm deep downfield while getting hit and it hits Justin Watson in stride with perfect timing when he’s making his break towards the sideline.
2nd Quarter 0:27 left: 1st down & 10 at 50
This touchdown was actually called back due to penalty, but it’s still worth showing as it shows his ability to buy time in the pocket to execute long developing downfield plays like this.
With his right guard gets pushed back in the pocket on this play he’s able to step up and find a soft spot in the pocket to deliver this throw downfield.
3rd Quarter 11:43 left: 3rd down & 6 at KC 40
This is a well executed play by the Chiefs all around. After an inside release Valdez-Scantling is able to beat his man when he works towards the sideline. The offensive line protects well on this play as Mahomes has plenty of time and delivers a good ball for a 37 gain on third down.
3rd Quarter 7:40 left: 3rd down & goal at CHI 3
Mahomes is able to get this throw over the outstretched hands over the Bears linebacker to find Kelce in the back of the endzone for a touchdown.
